College students: allow us know how you are shifting the world

Young men and women typically get a damaging portrayal in the media, with television programmes like the Secret Life of Students, Freshers and Fresh Meat accused of portraying college students according to unflattering stereotypes.

Lizzie Roberts, a current graduate of Lancaster University, wrote a weblog on the concern. She says: “Every fly-on-the-wall documentary or dramatic representation of British students casts the identical assortment of characters the lad, the slut, the introvert and the geek.”

What typically will get ignored is that many students are operating difficult to adjust the planet around them for the far better: from the college students who are concerned in volunteering, to the entrepreneurs and the digital innovators.

That’s why we’re launching a new series that will discover the techniques in which students are creating a good impact.

College students are much more politically engaged than ever prior to, in accordance to the Nationwide Union of College students (NUS), with virtually two thirds just lately saying they would vote if there was an election tomorrow.

And they’re not just engaged in get together politics and the basic election. Toni Pearce, president of NUS, says: “Students genuinely care about concerns and are engaged in the politics of their genuine lives.”
