Malala Yousafzai Receives Nobel Peace Prize


Upon getting her Nobel Peace Prize earlier this week, Pakistani schooling activist Malala Yousafzai gave a speech for all the “forgotten children” who deserve peace and the right to an schooling.

In her speech, the 17-year-old Yousafzai spoke to world leaders, asking them to end wars and to put their sources towards ending conflicts.

“This award is not just for me. It is for people forgotten kids who want training. It is for these frightened children who want peace. It is for those voiceless young children who want change,” she explained. “I am here to stand up for their rights to increase their voice.”

Malala is the youngest recipient of the prize. She received the award alongside Indian youngster rights campaigner Kailash Satyarthi, when the Norwegian Nobel committee recognized her efforts and “heroic struggle” for girls’ rights to training.  The winners, who will split the $ 1.1 million prize, have been selected for their perform safeguarding young children from slavery, extremism, and child labor, all even though risking their personal lives in the procedure.

Her speech obtained two standing ovations, a single at the starting and a single at the finish, in addition to numerous rounds of applause.

“Why is it that nations which we call strong are so potent in creating wars but are so weak in bringing peace?” she asked. “Why is it that providing guns is so straightforward, but providing books is so tough? Why is it that creating tanks is so simple, but building schools is so hard?”

In October 2012 Malala was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman even though campaigning for girls’ training.  Since then she has moved to Britain.

She brought several “sisters” with her to the ceremony, two of which have been shot in the very same incident.

Her speech brought insight into the problems in Pakistan, discussing how more than 400 colleges were destroyed in her hometown in Pakistan’s Swat Valley when she was 10, creating the location to become a spot the place “dreams turned into nightmares.”

Malala ended her speech by calling on planet leaders to make education their leading priority, announcing that the prize income she receives will go into a Malala fund utilised to create schools in Pakistan.  And she has no intentions of stopping there.  “In this 21st century we must be ready to give each and every child high quality education.”
